“في هذا المكان، حتى سقوط الليل”

Beirut Images Festival invites you to a first photography exhibition “Through her photographs, she protected life”by Marie el Khazen and a second one “At this place, until the fall of night”, by the Lebanese Photographer Badr Safadi on September 20, 2019 at 6:00 pm in Warche 13, Tripoli.
The first exhibition is by Marie el Khazen (1899 – 1983), the first Lebanese woman photographer who found in photography a way to rebel and started to capture the intimate family moments.
Mary was also passionate about portraying women doing what were traditionally men’s habits: smoking, hunting, driving, wearing men’s clothes, even the tarboosh! She was a champion of women’s issues and rights.
Mary was not a traditional photographer. She aspired to be different. She experimented and sought new skills, all of which made her photographs striking. Adam Schatz, art critic at The New York Times said of Mary’s work: “Such pictures don’t come along often, but once seen, they are impossible to forget, lodging themselves in the mind with the visceral force of revelation”
The exhibition “Through her photographs, Mary el-Khazen protected life” is a collection by Mr. Mohsen Yammine.
The second exhibition “At this place, until the fall of night” by Bdr Safadi is a collection of photographs contemplating the idea of waiting and the sense of anticipation and expectation that impregnate that idea. There is a waiting for something to take place across the street; to see where the black mass will fall, the return of someone from beyond the sea or from over the horizon. Perhaps the waiting is for a return to that place that lies in the distance, a return from exile. And while the person is waiting, time and nature move on.
The anticipation and expectation that accompanies the wait is dressed in a calm apprehension. An inner angst is seen in the expression, or lack of, in the subject’s face and it is at times hidden from us, the viewer. It is a silent angst, for although photographs are silent in nature they often evoke that sense of silence and if the viewer listens carefully it can be heard.
The exhibition continues until September 29, 2019.

يفتتح مهرجان بيروت للصورة “في هذا المكان، حتى سقوط الليل”، معرض للمصور اللبناني بدر صفدي وذلك نهار الجمعة ٢٠ أيلول – سبتمبر ٢٠١٩ عند الساعة السادسة في ورشة ١٣، طرابلس.

تتأمل هذه المجموعة من الصور الفوتوغرافية في فكرة الانتظار والشعور بالترقب والتوقع الذي يلقح تلك الفكرة. هناك انتظار لحدوث شيء ما عبر الشارع ؛ لمعرفة أين ستسقط الكتلة السوداء ، وعودة شخص من وراء البحر أو من وراء الأفق. ربما يكون الانتظار هو العودة إلى ذلك المكان الذي يقع على مسافة بعيدة ، اوالعودة من المنفى. وبينما ينتظر الشخص ، ينتقل الوقت والطبيعة.

الترقب والتوقع الذي يرافق الانتظار يرتدي في خوف هادئ. يتم النظر إلى القلق الداخلي في التعبير ، أو عدم وجود ، في وجه الشخص وهو في بعض الأحيان مخفي عنا ، المشاهد. وهو قلق صامت ، لأنه على الرغم من أن الصور صامتة في الطبيعة فإنها كثيرا ما تستوجب ذلك الشعور بالصمت وإذا استمع المشاهد بعناية يمكن أن يسمع.

بالإضافة إلى أعمال بدر صفدي، يكرم مهرجان بيروت للصورة المصورة اللبنانية ماري الخازن، إحدى الرائدات في عالم ألتصوير في لبنان أوائل القرن العشرين
