On the afternoon of October 21, Beijing International Photography Week 2023 opened at the China Millennium Monument in Beijing.
This Photography Week is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government, and hosted by the Art Photography Association of China, the China Photographers Association, the China Photojournalism Association, and the China Photo Collective. This year is the 11th year that Beijing International Photography Week has been successfully held. Over the past ten years, Photography Week has used the China Millennium Monument as a major exhibition venue, connecting it with domestic and foreign cultural institutions, and made full use of the project’s geographical advantages, platform advantages, content advantages and communication advantages to organize and plan a series of high-quality photographic cultural activities. It has actively organized a total of 440 domestic and foreign exhibitions and hosted more than 240 forums, attracting a total of 15,000 photographers and more than 270 institutions from nearly 100 countries to participate, effectively covering more than 300 million people.
After ten years of hard work, 2023 will be the second decade of the Beijing International Photography Week to move towards high-quality development. This Photography Week takes “Photo: Rural Coexistence” as the academic theme and focuses on “Implementing the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China”, “Rural Revitalization”, and “Coordinated Development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei”. “Building a Museum City of Beijing”, “One Belt, One Road” and other contents, established nine major themes, planned 11 exhibitions, displayed more than 2,000 pictures (collections), organized 13 forum activities, and presented a series of rich and exciting exhibitions and activities for the public.
The opening event of Beijing International Photography Week is a major exchange event for Chinese and foreign photography circles. The opening ceremony includes the red carpet ceremony of the Photography Road, the cooperation signing ceremony, the issuance of certificates, the release of the 2024 Photography Week theme event and other important contents.

Yang Yuanxing, CEO of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing International Photography Week 2023 and Honorary President of the China Photographic Art Association, said in his opening speech that the Beijing International Photography Week is guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and is committed to identifying locations for public welfare activities. Under the theme of public photography, committed to guiding people-centered work and building an exhibition and communication platform to promote socialist core values, an exchange and promotion platform for international video art and mutual learning among civilizations, an innovative experimental platform for science and technology, video art, video content products and video cultural services. The four main service functions of the supply platform have gradually increased their influence in internationalization, specialization, academic, branding and other aspects.
